Animal Welfare

[Last updated on 10 September 06]

The NUS Pro Bono Group is looking to expand our scope of activities to include animal welfare issues and increasing legal awareness about mistreatment of animals. We have contacted the Cat Welfare Society and are currently in talks with the organisation to develop projects.

Profile

The Cat Welfare Society is a charity, run almost entirely by volunteers, whose aim is to improve the welfare of stray cats in Singapore. All stray cats deserve our compassion and protection, and we believe that there are humane, effective ways to control their population — that is, through sterilisation instead of destruction.

Current Projects

The Group has met up with the Cat Welfare Society and has committed to give a presentation at the Police Academy in Oct 06 and raise legal awareness of the mistreatment of animals through posters and flyers.

Future projects

  • Raising legal awareness about mistreatment of animals with the Police Force
  • Participation in a large-scale publicity event on World Animal Day in October 2006
  • Reviewing legislation on pet ownership
